Up Close
When we get up close
The threat of isolation grows
The mind responds through fear
Bringing us ever so near
To melt our differences
Making them benign preferences
Like the sky, keep a distance
From the ego’s persistence
The precious disappears up close
Replaced by the ego’s dull prose
Keeping us in habitual motions
Chained to negative emotions
Keeping distance, we grow
Towards roots deep below
Our narrow fleeting version
Won’t survive such immersion
