Life is a long game

Life is a long game

Following rules is no shame

Play it hard, play it well

Until the final ring of the bell

Thinking of a purpose

The false self will surface

In the pursuit of dreams

We may go to extremes

There’s no defined meaning

Nothing about life is demeaning

Whatever may be the work

Life rewards those who don’t shirk

Living brings understanding

We may spend time planning

But life has other plans

To know, we can’t belong to clans

Universality ultimately wins

The era of happiness begins

It is just a thought away

When we no longer weigh

Situational minuses and pluses

Through them, judgment rushes

Altering the rules of the game

Steering towards individual acclaim

Sinking into individuality

We begin to grow a faculty

That of hoarding through sight

Through which greed may ignite

__

The road’s made unnecessarily long

Many temptations come along

Succumbing to even one

Life’s core lessons are undone

There is a ladder to climb

A life-line before it is time

Sits within us, waiting

For us to stop creating

The imaginary world of ours

Where innocence sours

It’s no wonder that we’re lost

Without means to cover the cost

Of the return passage

It presents a challenge

Individual versus universal

Any choice is controversial

Life doesn’t like to choose

Amongst our countless views

None influence the next sunrise

The real reason we are alive

That flame high up in the sky

Keeping life in endless supply

Has a message for us humans

Burn away all illusions

Life has the ultimate say

It has the means to pay

For its silence, and longevity

We’re included, by ending enmity
