The breath of life
The breath keeps our lungs always full
Of life, even if we forget to pull
Constantly whispering life’s great secret
That this journey isn’t all that frequent
Where would we be without this chance?
Perhaps distant stardust, frozen in a cosmic trance
We are given eyes and ears
As searchlights, not tools to parlay our fears
Our breath paves the roadway
Staying on it, our mind will not sway
Becoming benign as a celestial ornament in orbit
Without changing tracks for a whiff of profit
Life and death dance in our nostrils
When it’s music isn’t heard, we are living fossils
Our promise to life is kept in the here and now
In every breath, we renew that vow
