Joy & Sorrow
One a light, the other a shadow
If joy is the light, it has much to owe
Sorrow, that provides a dark contrast
The reach both have within is vast
Joy and sorrow, these labels don’t stick
To existence, but they make our minds tick
Running to and from, both are a chase
An excuse to expand the mind’s space
It’s easy to lose ourselves in joy
Forgetting the one, given the privilege to enjoy
Sorrow can help us perceive
The distance, we grow if we don’t grieve
There is neither shadow nor light
That can force us to the depths or the height
The search ends when joy and sorrow are discarded
That independence must be guarded
