Our little dot
We’re so many, on our little dot
It provides, but we care not
Fortunes are made and depleted
Over millennia, the story’s repeated
Our little dot, glowing in the dark
It has enticed life to spark
Getting more complex by the day
Woes of the mind come into play
It’s as if a parallel universe
One we can’t easily traverse
Helpless in space, inner and outer
We counter, through a quest for power
Some leave a giant stain
Pillaging life’s gravy train
For personal benefit, it’s worthless
In the eyes of time, it’s ruthless
We overload, our five baskets
To feed the mind’s banquets
The gluttony is impressive
Over everything, we get possessive
Our little dot can only hold so much
What we do, it doesn’t grudge
Time gives us a tiny sliver
We use to destroy and splinter
Peace and unity on our little dot
Without it, children are distraught
Don’t let their innocent minds see
A bleak future, there’s nowhere to flee
__
We can turn our dot into paradise
Personal ambitions must pay a price
They have had a free reign
It is time to relearn and retrain
Going back to old ways of living
Done through seeking and giving
Our place on this dot isn’t forever
This relationship, time will sever
Every day is a gift and blessing
The future will keep us guessing
Leave those thoughts for now
Till the present, as if a vow
See what our dot does with seeds
Cared for, like precious beads
It has to feed its hungry children
Who number several billion
We have our own personal plot
But we let our seeds rot
There is so much potential lost
It comes at a significant cost
It’s time to gather around
Ideas sharing common ground
The gift of collective effort
Will make this dot, the earth, better
It is the only worthwhile legacy
Otherwise, we’re the dustbin of history
Our little dot, deserves a rest
We contribute, when desires we divest
