Disappearance

Venturing into the past, we appear

And meet another who seeks cheer

Into the arms of time, they both go

Forgetting that the journey will not slow

By holding to the now, we disappear

Then comes time’s turn, to fear

Having one less in its burgeoning fold

As a gift for history to savor and uphold

The hammer blows of ego drive nails

Pinning us to the past, from where ego hails

We are welcomed with great fanfare

As if we are the chosen heir

The now is indifferent to status and age

From the past, it seems a narrow shifting stage

In a twinkle of time, we can disappear

To join us, the miserly ego will find the price dear
