The Essence

The essence, it is well hidden

It cannot be experienced unbidden

For a taste that’s everywhere

It can’t be described until we’re aware

The steps taken may be accidental

But transformational, if gentle

The essence likes the center

Until we’re fully aware, we can’t enter

Become a bee staking its life, for drops of nectar

Moment to moment,  when we're a tireless prospector

The essence may trickle, when we embrace

Every instant, without considering effort a chase

Expectation poisons the essence

Our link to the rest of existence

It’s experienced we’re awake in the present

Ready and eager for its fragrant scent
