The Alert
Alertness makes life available
Joy or suffering, it becomes palatable
Revealing a dimension hitherto unknown
What remains is important, not what’s flown
There aren’t any thorns to trouble the alert
That awareness is the salve for the deepest hurt
Time doesn’t come and go, leaving behind pain
The alert don’t measure life as loss or gain
The alert find the secret to this variety
They are not limited by human propriety
There is freedom beyond rules and mores
The alert travel to those distant shores
They don’t need a bed or a home
To rest, the alert glide into the unknown
It is neither a loss of fear nor a sacrifice
Through gratitude, alertness will arise
